This manual page is part of Cross-Unix Documentation which is an attempt to provide documentation of similarities and (noteworthy) differencies between Unix-like systems. To be used as an addition to the POSIX standard.

falseshould always returns false

false [ignored arguments]

false [--help] [--version]

IEEE Std 1003.1-2008 (“POSIX.1”) defines false as a command that does not uses standard outputs or input, yet the GNU coreutils implementation of false doesn't ignore --help and --version which could lead to bugs or unexpected behaviour.

GNU coreutils 8.30
